Best CrushOn AI characters & how to find them
Any list of “best characters” goes stale in weeks — the library has millions of cards and grows daily. What lasts is the method: four signals that predict whether a card is worth your evening. 18+
The four quality signals
- Example dialogue. The single best predictor. If the samples show distinct voice, varied sentence length and specific vocabulary, the chat will too. If they read like a product description, skip it.
- Conversation count. Popular cards get revised. A character with high volume has been through dozens of iterations and usually behaves better than a new card with the same premise.
- Concrete opening scenario. Cards that place you somewhere specific with something at stake give the model material. Vague premises produce vague replies.
- Specificity of personality. Traits and contradictions, not adjectives. “Over-explains when nervous” is a behaviour the model can perform; “shy” is not.
Where to start browsing
- Original OC — the highest-effort cards in the library, since creators invest in characters they invented.
- Fantasy — best category for long-form narrative, and the one that benefits most from larger memory tiers.
- Anime archetypes — strong conventions give models a lot to work with; good for dialogue-heavy scenes.
- Slice of life — lowest setup cost, high replay value, works well even on free models.
- Villain / morally grey — the category where an unfiltered platform shows its advantage; filtered services refuse these.

How to audition a card in two minutes
- Read the example dialogue first — before the description or the artwork.
- Send one off-script opening message rather than playing along with the premise. Good characters react well to surprise; weak ones fall back on stock lines.
- Watch messages 15–25. That is where thin cards collapse into generic prose.
- If it holds, save it. If not, move on — there is no reason to persist with a mediocre card.
Model matters less than the card. A great card on a free model beats a mediocre card on the best Ultra model, consistently. Sort the card first, then worry about which model runs it — see models explained.
When to just build your own
If you have browsed for twenty minutes without finding what you want, building is faster. A solid card takes 15–30 minutes, costs nothing, and you can keep it private while iterating. Once you know what good looks like, your own card will beat most of what you find — full walkthrough in how to create a character.
FAQ
How do I find the best CrushOn AI characters?
Judge by example dialogue, conversation count, scenario specificity and personality detail — in that order.
Why do some characters feel generic?
Adjective-only definitions. Thin cards drift into generic assistant prose within ~20 messages on any model.
Browse or create?
Browse first to calibrate, then create. Creation is free and often faster than scrolling.
Do popular characters work on free models?
Yes. Model quality changes register and prose, not whether a character exists. Well-built cards work everywhere.
Can I edit a character I did not create?
No — but you can usually clone or fork a card into your own private version and adjust it.
